Bonn is located in the far west of Germany, a short drive from the Dutch and Belgian borders. The city hosts a great number of business expos and events, and also has an impressive cultural heritage for what is a fairly small place. This makes it a delight to travel around, with diverse architectural styles and many interesting sights along the River Rhine. Hotels in Bonn are plentiful and cater to the city’s international visitors, who typically arrive from the nearby Cologne/Bonn Airport.
Bonn’s heritage as the birthplace of Beethoven is the cornerstone of its cultural history. Visitors can see the Beethoven House, now a museum, and enjoy Beethovenfest, a global music festival. Bonn was the capital of West Germany and retains its identity as a hub of historical interest and culture, with many interesting buildings dotted around the town. The World Conference Center is a huge, quasi-futuristic space with vast facilities for conventions. Additionally, Bonn is the nucleus of many of Germany's major telecoms corporations, including the HQs of Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile.
As the former capital of West Germany, the city contains a wealth of fascinating monuments and landmarks. These include the Poppelsdorfer Castle and Botanical Gardens plus the Palais Schaumburg. Also check out the Kreuzbergkirche, an incredibly ornate baroque church. In keeping with its tradition of excellence in classical music production, why not enjoy a performance at the Bonn Opera House or the Beethoven Orchestra Hall? Both offer a pleasingly authentic taste of the city’s musical heritage. Bonn also has a sophisticated nightlife scene. Check out the intimate Blow Up club or Uptown Bar, great for cocktails after a busy day of conferences. Both are located in the city centre near the river.
